Psychotherapy for adolescents, adults, and families.
Our work together can help you grow and make the changes you want to make in order to reach your goals.
The decision to seek therapy is a hard one, but a great step to feeling better and effecting change in your life.
Jennifer L. Reisner, LCSW, MSW has been in clinical practice for over 20 years working with adolescents and adults in the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, low self-esteem, childhood trauma and abuse (sexual, physical, emotional) as well as recent traumatic events (PTSD), and addiction.
She works in a psychodynamic approach understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all prescription for healing. She will use different modalities to best meet your goals to help you heal.
Areas of focus
Trauma
Trauma not only impacts the mind and the way we think about the world around us, but it also remains stored in the body and effects how the body interprets and processes information. Trauma impacts our current sense of ourselves. It can cause fear and anxiety in the way we relate to others in our lives. To address traumatic events, I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to target the area of the brain where the traumatic event is stored in order to help you move beyond that which keeps you stuck. I have been using this method successfully to help those struggling work through the trauma and get past the pain.
Relationship Challenges
Relationships can be challenging. When two people come from two entirely different environments and come together it can be difficult to connect. Our work together will offer insight into past relationships and patterns formed which are influencing your present relationships, and provide you tangible coping skills to help in moving beyond where you find yourself currently.
Substance Abuse & Addictive Disorders
I can help you understand the genesis and triggers to your addiction while helping you build a healthy, balanced, and sober lifestyle. If you are a family member who is struggling with your loved ones’ addiction, I incorporate the family into the therapeutic process to help educate in order to stop enabling behavior, establish boundaries, build trust, and enhance communication. My overall goal is to listen, provide education and therapeutic techniques to help you and your family heal and to live a healthy and productive life.
Parenting
Kids do not come with instruction manuals and unfortunately life doesn’t seem to play out as it does on tv. There is no such thing as the “perfect parent”. This doesn’t exist and we all do the best we can. I can help you navigate difficult parenting hurdles by providing guidance and practical solutions. This includes, helping you establish mutual respect with your child, setting boundaries, managing screen time, and learning to differentiate your child’s pain from your own. I provide support, guidance and practical solutions to help you through these challenges.
Sexual Abuse Survivors Support Group
This group is open to women and men with histories of trauma as a result of sexual abuse (childhood sexual abuse, neglect, childhood physical abuse or rape). Sharing pain and gaining support from others who understand first hand what you have experienced is vital in the journey to recovery.
This is a private and confidential group that can help women and men cope with their emotions surrounding this trauma. These emotions may include, but are not limited to shame, pain, anxiety, sadness, anger and guilt.
The objectives are to:
Help participants share their experience
Support participants in shame reduction
Recognize that you are not alone
Help participants to understand how this trauma impacts areas of current functioning, such as relationships, work, parenting, and stress management
Help participants begin to process feelings and beliefs associated with the trauma.
The group is warm and supportive, and members work hard to make desired changes in their lives.
Consultation is required before acceptance into the group.
Testimonials
I have been working with Jennifer Reisner for just about a year now and I truly can’t speak highly enough of her. I have a history of recurrent childhood trauma that has left me struggling with debilitating PTSD despite many years of previous therapies and programs. My work with her has truly been life changing. While much of my progress with her has been accomplished through her expertise in EMDR, it is Jennifer’s immense caring, compassion, understanding, and extensive knowledge that has kept me on track and moving forward. She knows when to push me, when to back off, when to call me out, when to inspire me, and when to provide compassion. She is down to earth, honest, and real with me, which has made it effortless to bond with her in our therapeutic relationship despite my struggles to trust people. Jennifer has gone above and beyond to support me in my recovery process and has helped me to find the hope and relief that I never thought possible.
- Client
Jennifer asks powerful questions and is such a compassionate listener. She has helped me to look at so many aspects of my life in a new light, and I'm incredibly thankful to have her support. I highly recommend her and I wouldn't be the empowered woman I'm becoming if it weren't for her!
-Client
I started working with Jennifer after my mother lost her fight with cancer. At the time I had met her, I was lost in life. My weekly sessions with her offered me new perspective and helped me to deal with the pain I felt inside. I could tell her anything and never felt judged or uncomfortable. She helped me become the man I am today and I am forever grateful to her for the time she spent helping me work though tough times.
-Former Client
Thank you for all the help you gave me as part of my healing. I have been thinking about the work we did around the mind/body connection and how disruptions in one, cause problems in the other. I am really doing well and feel that all the different healing modalities you implemented were instrumental in getting me to a better place.
